The Village Maradik

The Village Maradik is situated in Srem, it belongs to Indjija community. It situated on road between Beograd – Novi Sad. From Belgrade is on distance 53 km from Novi Sad is 30 km. maradik was mention for the first time 1498 in Krušedol’s „Pomenik“, and next mention was in Diploma of Monastery Krušedol. From 1736 till 1737 was mention like Serdian society caused by wars. 1788 was migrated a large number of inhabitants from Serbia, especially from beginning of war between Austrian – Hungarian monarchy and Turkey. New migration was mention in register of inhabitants 1880 -1890. Etno kuća Maradik
This migrations become because intesivity of agriculture and colonization of Germany and Hungarians. Count Marko Pejačević was settled a large number of Hungarians who were a good agricultural society. Today from ethincal belongings it is a Serbian and Hungarian settlemnt: - First school was opened in 1826. In cultural – historical monuments in Maradik it belongs a religious buildings. In the village there is three Churches:
  • Serbian – Ortodox Church devoted to St.Sava, waes build in 1776. Icons of Church are one year younger. Painting of icons was painted by Teodor Ilić – Češljar
  • Calvinist Church was build 1848.
  • Roman – Catholic Church devoted to St.Ana, but year of build is unknown.
Maradik is typical village settlement, it belongs to Panonia type settlement, build on coffins plateau. From all industry, agriculture is well-developed in village and almost 80of inhabitants are invloved in it. Maradik was kept his past in books and buildings which were intend for spiritual and physical needs. One of these buildings are our ETHNO HOUSE. We want to keep Maradik for new generations to find somenthing in cultural, traditional and ethnical meaning.
